Florence (Nee: Thompson) Mills 1889-1916


Florence Thompson 

     Florence Thompson was born in the Summer of  1889 on 8th day of August,  to Anna Amelia Thompson (nee: Maybee) and her husband George Francis Thompson of Belleville, Ontario. Her mother Anna, was 33 years old just a few months shy of her 34th birthday on October 13, 1855. Florence's father at 42, he would turn 43 on December 7th of that year. For her parents, Florence was born in the Autumn of their years. 
    
     Florence was the second for five children born to Anna and George Thompson. Florence's brother James Gordon Thompson was born two years earlier in 1887. Florence's younger siblings, Kathleen Letitia Thompson was born on November 22, 1891, her brother Alfred Thompson, known as Hoyt was born on March 7, 1893. Anna, Florence's mother, was 41 when she gave birth to her last daughter, Helen Thompson on June 11, 1896.

     On October 13 of 1913, at the age of twenty-four, Florence married thirty year old, Fred, Roland Manfred Mills in Belleville, Ontario. Foureen months later, at the age of 25, Florence gave birth to her only child, a daughter, Dorothy Noelle Mills on the 20th of December in 1914 in Belleville, Ontario.

     By 1916, the young family was living at 802 Garwood Street, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Tragically Florence would contract and perish of tuberculosis, one of many highly contagious disease that plagued the still frontier town of Winnipeg in that time period.

    At the age of 27, Florence a Presbyterian, passed away on the 2nd of December, 1916, just two weeks before her daughter, Dorothy's 2nd birthday.
